Rehabilitation of a 20 m diameter arch
Validation of the calculations and rehabilitation methods for an arch closed for 15 years, followed by the production of plans and specifications.
An arch critical for vehicle traffic had been closed for 15 years following various calculations and analyses. JPC Consultants inc. was mandated to validate the calculations and the proposed rehabilitation methods, including the complete replacement of the arch. Based on our calculations, we concluded that controlled backfill was sufficient. We then produced the required plans and specifications. A settlement of about 40 mm had been predicted, which matches exactly the behaviour observed after backfilling and the passage of very heavy vehicles.
