Soil reinforcement to allow construction

Soil engineering

Soil stabilization in Quebec, New Brunswick, the N.W.T. and Nunavut

JPC Consultants inc. designs soil stabilization projects in Quebec City and the surrounding regions, to increase the bearing capacity of a site or stabilize a slope before building.

Our approach

Soils that can carry your project

Soil that is too weak can delay a project or increase its cost. Before building, the soil sometimes needs to be reinforced so it can carry the planned loads.

JPC Consultants inc. carries out foundation reinforcement. This allows us to increase the bearing capacity of the soil for your projects.

For slopes, we design stabilization with APAJA anchors. These anchors allow very steep slopes in stiff to medium clay, sand, silt and other materials. They are not suitable for rock faces.

We assess each site with you. We compare the possible solutions, then design the one that best meets the project requirements.

Understanding the service

Why stabilize the soil before building?

Soil stabilization covers the solutions that improve how a site behaves. The goal is to avoid excessive settlement, slides and failures.

On a construction site, it allows the soil to support foundations, a site access road or heavy equipment. For an excavation, it allows a steeper wall to be cut, temporarily or permanently.

APAJA anchors greatly reduce costs, because they limit cut and fill. They also avoid more costly retaining structures, such as soldier pile and lagging walls (Berlin walls).

These anchors have little impact on the environment. After some time, they are no longer visible and only the vegetation can be seen. They therefore allow work along riverbanks.

Our solutions

Our soil stabilization solutions

The right treatment depends on the soil, the loads and the intended use. Here are the solutions we design.

  • 01

    Bearing capacity reinforcement

Soil reinforcement to allow construction on a site that is too weak.

  • 02

    Foundation reinforcement

Work that increases bearing capacity under a structure.

  • 03

    Slope stabilization

Slope reinforcement for a steeper excavation, temporary or permanent.

  • 04

    APAJA anchors

Toggle anchors for clay, sand and silt, with immediate pull-out tests.

  • 05

    Rock blocks and rock masses

Design of measures to stabilize rock blocks and rock masses.

  • 06

    Berms

Protective mounds designed for the soils in place.

Our process

From site diagnosis to the solution in place

  1. 01

    Site analysis

Review of geotechnical data, planned loads and site constraints.

  2. 02

    Choice of solution

Comparison of options based on feasibility, environmental impact and cost.

  3. 03

    Design and plans

Calculations, engineering plans and technical notes for construction.

  4. 04

    Follow-up and testing

Anchor pull-out tests and inspection of excavation slopes.

Who we serve

For mining, commercial, public and private projects

We support contractors, mining companies, cities and communities, developers and private owners.

APAJA anchors can be installed by any certified contractor. You keep the choice of your contractor.

Soil stabilization can also be combined with a retaining wall. It then helps limit the size of the wall, for example by reducing the geogrid length.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions: soil stabilization

Another question? Call us at 418 802-6945.

It is the set of solutions that improve how a site behaves: bearing capacity reinforcement, foundation reinforcement and slope stabilization.

Yes. We carry out foundation reinforcement, which increases bearing capacity for your projects.

No. They are suitable for stiff to medium clay, sand, silt and other materials, but not for rock faces.

Any certified contractor can install them. Pull-out tests are done immediately.
