Retaining walls
Reinforced soil wall in Quebec, New Brunswick, the N.W.T. and Nunavut
JPC Consultants inc. designs reinforced soil walls in Quebec City and across Quebec, with wire mesh facing, concrete facing or concrete blocks.
Our approach
The backfill becomes the structure
In a reinforced soil wall, layers of reinforcement are placed in the compacted backfill. The soil and the reinforcement work together to form a stable mass.
The facing protects the backfill and gives the wall its look. We design walls with wire mesh facing, concrete facing or concrete blocks, as well as reinforced soil rock walls.
For more than 15 years, we have designed these walls for temporary and permanent structures. We carry out the calculations to current standards.
Combined with APAJA anchors, a reinforced soil wall may require a shorter geogrid length. This is an advantage when space behind the wall is limited.

Choosing well
Why choose a reinforced soil wall?
Reinforced soil is well suited to tall walls and heavy loads. It tolerates small ground movements better than a rigid wall.
It is built in successive layers. The choice of facing depends on the use, the desired look and the budget.
However, the wall needs enough space behind the facing to place the reinforcement. We check this constraint at the start of the mandate.
We work with several established, well-known suppliers in Quebec. We are not tied to a single product, which lets us offer the most suitable system.
Systems we design
The reinforced soil walls we design
Each facing meets different needs. Here are the systems we design most often.
- 01
Wire mesh facing
Sturdy, free-draining mesh panels, installed as the backfill rises.
- 02
Concrete facing
Concrete panels for a durable finish.
- 03
Concrete blocks
Modular blocks connected to the reinforcement layers.
- 04
Reinforced soil rock wall
Rocks placed as the facing of a reinforced soil mass.
- 05
Vegetated retaining wall
A facing that lets vegetation cover the wall.
- 06
Product approval
Calculations for the approval of suppliers' products by the MTQ.
Our process
From site analysis to sealed plans
- 01
Site analysis
Review of geotechnical data, available space and nearby structures.
- 02
Choice of system
Type of facing and reinforcement based on height, loads and cost.
- 03
